Create An Awesome Yoga Sequence Of Your Own

Welcome to Clayton Yoga.  Thank you for reading these five steps to creating an awesome yoga sequence of your own. We are very excited to share with you some great tips! Practice the following yoga sequence in this given order. Just follow these simple 5 steps and you will be well on your way to a nice home yoga practice.

The first tip in starting your own yoga practice, is to honor your own body. Everybody is different and trust your own intuition. Give yourself permission to take frequent breaks, or hold postures for longer than recommended. Make sure that you honor your space and expand your spirit. There are not set rules here and your heart wants to sing, so let it.

The second key step is to establish the cluster effect. When creating a sequence, first write out a few of your favorite postures in an order that will group or cluster postures (such as on the floor or in a standing position). You will want your sequence to flow correctly and in order to do so, maximize time for inward focus and deep yoga breathing.

Three, keep your knees bent, activate all muscles, open the toes (whenever possible) and invite the universal force to move through the body. Let it in. The ‘chi’or prana life force heals and repairs any imbalances, boosts our energy and lifts our mood.

Four, ego be gone! Place your attention not on your thoughts about how you are doing, but on the breath and honor the first place of tension or resistance. So many people, think progress, is about going deeper on the physical level.

Five. Include lots of neutral transitions postures, like Uttanasana, Adho muhka savasana, Baddha konasana, when moving the body from one extreme to another,(like backbend to forward bend). Breath deep from the beginning, in the middle and at the end.

  1. Take the training course and let go! You will have the tools to get in touch with yourself and others. It is a small offering that can mean so much for the big picture. I found this course to be a great investment for life! With Love, Carissa

  2. So helpful! After recently starting to student teach I find myself wondering how I am doing in the middle of class. Are the students having fun? Do they like the poses? Do I even make sense? Thank you for these tips! I know they will have a big impact on my next class.

Such great advice, especially the part on sticking to neutral poses and transitional postures. I can see why that would be so helpful in a room of students with different levels of experience and physical limitations. Thank you for the help!

  4. What a great set of points to consider when setting up a sequence for practice. Lovely and natural and allow each to safely push the edge.

  5. I’m wondering how you tailor a self-made sequence to different objectives. For example, I’ve seen “home practice” sequences that claim to help you sleep better, or open the hips, or aid in digestion. When making a sequence with a specific goal in mind, is it about the poses you include, or the order you do them?
