Small Act Of Kindness

lotus-460443_640Sometimes it only takes one small act of kindness and your day transforms from bad to great in matter of seconds. Would you like to help your friends and family to feel better and enjoy life? Pick a small act of kindness from the list below.

Give a bigger than usual tip! And share your appreciation with the person who served you.

Donate the things that you don’t use any more. There are so many household and electronic items or clothes that are in a very good condition but for whatever reason we don’t use them anymore. Why not donate them to people who will be happy to have them? What could you donate? Cell phones, laptops, tablets, small electronic devices, furniture, clothing, shoes, kitchen appliances, decorations, toys, etc. – the list is long… The only thing is that what you donate has to be in a condition that the recipients will be happy to actually use them.

Don’t throw away books! You can donate them to libraries, schools and even to doctor’s offices. They will serve as a welcome entertainment for kids and adults while waiting for appointments.

Send a hand written card! Sending postcards or letters to friends and family is always on our to-do list, right? Most of the time, it stays on our holiday to-do list for the next year, though. Why not start on this project right now? Buy some pretty cards and begin writing this evening. And the best is? You don’t even have to wait till Xmas to send those cards!

Say thank you! You might think it, but do you say “Thank You”? There is nothing more motivating to do more small acts of kindness than hearing those 2 words. Oh, and of course you can send a thank you card, too!

Hold the door open for the next person behind you – now this might sound a bit old fashioned but holding doors open for a mom with small kids, somebody carrying lots of packages or the elderly is such practical help!

Shoveling snow for a neighbor, bringing in their trash cans or watering their plants while they are on vacation – there are so many ways you can be of help to the people in your neighborhood. And who knows maybe next time you will wake up to a clear driveway in the middle of January.

Plant a tree – you not only give back to nature, you will make your neighborhood a nicer place. And the tree you plant today will give and give for years and years to come.

  1. I witnessed this today at work!
An elderly woman was ordering from me and came up quite a few dollars short and the young lady behind her took it upon herself to buy her whole meal! The elderly woman was so happy she offered to do anything to return the favor, however the young lady just wanted to make sure she got her lunch and asked for nothing in return.
This gesture made me stop and take a look within; so since then I have asked myself: how could I be a light in someone’s life today?
