Four Tips For Yoga Beginners

Make A 100% Commitment

Practicing yoga will be one of the most rewarding thing in your life. You need to remember though that your dedication is also very important. It is better if you don’t skip a week or two here and there, because you feel like it. Use the power of momentum to your best advantage!

In order to experience the full benefits of yoga, commit to 12 weeks of practice at least. Put your yoga classes on your calendar weeks in advance. Even if you have a vacation planned, you might find a local yoga class offered at your resort. Ask your yoga teacher for a simple yoga sequence that you can take with you on the road. Or check out an online yoga class.

Don’t Let Preconceptions Put You Off

Do you feel that somehow you don’t live up to the yogini image? Maybe you are not so flexible or fit or pretty in yoga clothes like the other women practicing yoga? Who cares? Yoga is there for every body. Every body can practice yoga and reap the benefits!

You might need some special adjustments taking into consideration your level of fitness or any health conditions you have. This is why it is important you start practicing yoga at a reputable yoga studio or with a private yoga teacher.

Keep It Simple

In order to avoid injury and to avoid putting yourself off continuing with your practice, you should make sure that you familiarize yourself with the basics first. Have your yoga teacher help you with the first asanas and breathing exercises. Ask your questions, ask for feedback and modifications from your teacher.

Start off with private or studio sessions and then when you feel comfortable and confident, you can start practicing at home on your own.

Remember To Eat Healthy

Most of us start practicing yoga because we are looking for more health and balance in our lives. Besides doing the body work, your health goals can be achieved easier by eating a healthy diet.

Balance your nutrition and avoid fad diets. You need to support your body with the best possible food you can get. Do you have to become a vegetarian to practice yoga? Not necessarily. If you feel better leaving meat out of your diet when you get deeper in yoga philosophy, then follow that path. There is no must in yoga!

Can you just add one more serving of vegetables to your diet? Or an extra piece of fruit? Great start to become healthier! Next step could be exchanging an unhealthy food (like chips) for a healthier alternative – have you tried veggie crisps already?

It is advisable not to eat 2 hours before a yoga class. If you are still hungry and you feel that this will make it difficult to concentrate on your practice, eat a piece of fruit before class. Don’t forget about water, either!
