In this fast paced, high-stress world, do we really need our workouts to be driven and competitive?
I have been a yoga teacher for 14 years and I really don’t think I need to be competitive at all. In fact, growing up, I played competitive tennis and won many tournaments. I began taking yoga 14 years ago, after the birth of my daughter because I had lost my attention span and since starting yoga, regained great attention for projects plus many more benefits.
Some people start out with yoga for the physical conditioning or because they had an injury and want to move the body correctly. Then they discover the other benefits. Yoga captures the joy of who we are. It has a focus on the breath the helps us learn to just be and increases our inner resilience to stress. Now in addition to teaching at the studio, I lead corporate wellness programs and teacher training courses around the world.
I think there is something to be said about the true power of backing off gently…
