Authentic Yoga Voices – Alexandra Belisle

Alexandra BelisleMeet Alexandra Belisle, Clayton Yoga’s youngest teacher in training.

“What do I want to do with my life? That was the big question on my mind when starting college this time last year. I pondered this question the entire first semester. There were so many options, yet none of them really peaked my interest.

During high school I went to cosmetology school mostly just because all my friends were and it sounded like it would be fun to do. I figured business would go along great with my cosmetology license. I took a few business classes and really excelled in them; however, I didn’t enjoy them as much as I thought I would.

I decided to sign up for a pilates/yoga class just to get a gym credit. I found myself apprehensive about the class at first but once we started I fell in love. I realized I could push my body further than I ever felt possibly. I woke up the next day refreshed and just happier with myself. I knew from that point on that this was what I was meant to do. I could feel in my whole being that my calling in life was to teach others a new way, a new outlook on life. I was going to teach them that you are capable of anything you set your mind to.

Who am I? This question has an unlimited amount of answers and I may have different answers to this on different day, depending on my mood. I hate to admit that I am sometimes lazy, jealous, judgmental, hurtful and uncaring. I am proud to admit I am compassionate, enthusiastic, driven and loving.

I would love to be the absolute best me every single day, but I’m only human and sometimes I don’t do the best I can.

I want to an amazing person not only for myself but for my friends and family and my future yoga students. I want to show my students that we are all human, we’re not all perfect.

Sometimes others are better than me and I do become jealous but then once my jealousy has subsided I think hey I can learn from that person instead of just feeling anger towards them. God gave us all different gifts, who am I to judge if you have a different gift than I do.

I want to show the world that my authentic voice isn’t one of power or of being above others but a voice of understanding and empathy. If we don’t lend a hand to one another in this world what are we living for?

I was given this amazing gift of being able to love and practice yoga. I want to share my gift with the world and show others in hopes that they will get something positive from it just like I did.

As a young woman, sister, daughter, new wife, college student and many more I plan to contribute all of myself to yoga especially the good parts. I want to fully engage myself into the yoga world so I can become a better teacher and create a better life for my students.”
