Lindsay Sylvia is graduating with Clayton Yoga Teacher Training December 6th, 2015. The following blogpost describes her top 3 favorite steps to cultivating greater authenticity, higher vibration, and better quality choices and living. Lindsay believes strongly that the mind is a beautiful, bountiful, wonderful place if you let it be.
“Yoga is a practice that leaves you feeling calm, light, and happy. I want to share that with everyone who is willing to practice with me.
Step one. Become Your Own Best Friend – Spend time with yourself, learn what or who make your energy levels soar or dip. Love yourself, encourage yourself; don’t let other people’s opinions about you form your opinion about yourself. Take care of yourself first; much like the airlines advise you to place your oxygen mask on first before assisting others. It’s not selfish; it’s actually powerful and respectable. Know your limits of irritation, anxiety, your capacity to love, patience, fear, anger. Know it well; you’ll be able to accomplish so much more when you place yourself in situations that will allow you to thrive. Find your depth (your place of sincere calm) and make a home there. You are going to be with yourself forever.
Step Two. Create Your Dream Surroundings – Close your eyes imagine yourself in your dream space. Is there clutter? Are there people shouting? Is there dust and dirt on the floor? Probably not. I imagine crisp white sheets and fuzzy blankets, clean wood floors, a warm fire place, twinkling lights, a beautiful painting, aromatherapy mist, soft music. What are some steps you can take today to create your personal dream space? What about steps you can take once a week? How soon will you be in your personal dream space if you start now? Try it out. Having a beautiful safe place for you to reconnect with yourself is very important for your sleep cycles, your stress level and time management. It will also allow you room to find your creative outlet, which is pivotal in cultivating authenticity.
Step Three. Creative Outlet – Freedom is having an outlet to express your thoughts and ideas, your wildest dreams. You can have an outlet which you share with hundreds of people or you can have a passion that you just share with yourself. Singing, art, yoga, sculpture, knitting, jewelry design, fairy-gardens, vegetable gardens, writing, coloring, etc. there are countless creative paths that you can explore. Find one or two that make your heart sing and dive in with both feet. Do something every day for yourself, even if it is for five minutes. It will allow you the calm space you need to process and reflect on events that have happened in your day (good or bad).”

I loved this so much. I appreciate how to the point she gets. It doesn’t have to be so hard become yourself and I get lost in that sometimes, and this article reminds me of that. I also loved the bold font touch to the first sentences, it adds a great punch to the point.
This is such a great article. Loving ourselves is something we don’t do, everyone and everything comes first. With this Yoga training I want to be patient with myself and move toward the goal of a calmer spirit, life and a better person by taking care of myself. As Lindsay says, we are the only self we have.
This was a very inspiring article for me. I can really relate to everything she is saying, and she was very quick to make out her point and I love that! I like the point about taking time out of ones day for your personal self. I think that is a very important point amongst everything else that was stated, but mostly because people tend to live such busy lives that they forget to have “me” moments which are some of the most important moments to have for your mind and also for your body.
“Become your own best friend”:: How true are those words? Yet, how hard are they to live by sometimes?
The practice teaches one to nurture oneself in every aspect– no pushing, no fighting, no struggle. On our mats, we are asked to surrender to “What is”– What is happening in the moment, the present moment. Just as we would encourage a friend to let go, breathe, and find peace in the ‘moment’, so we must do the same:: Take our own advice.
Beautiful post…..Namaste.
