What are the most important things you need to look out for when deciding which yoga teacher training course to take? We listed the most important 8 questions to ask.
One. What is the level of expertise from the course instructor?
A few obvious questions to ask is the amount of yoga the instructor has taught. The best way to ascertain whether the instructor is knowledgeable is to write down a list of questions that you have about the course and speak in person either by phone or in person. What kind of experience and particularly what type of clients has the instructor worked with? It is also fair to ask if there were any breaks in their experience and if so why? How long has the program been around? How was the curriculum designed? Is this course an interactive journey process or a prefixed follow the manual type of environment? All of these questions can help you learn about the level of expertise greatly. You can find out more than you ever dreamed, simply by asking, and then paying attention to the answers.
Two. What is the degree of authenticity involved?
Does the instructor talk about teamwork but really there is only one person leading the entire course? Are there other instructors involved in teaching and leading the training? What is their qualifications? More importantly, does the director make time for everyone to really take an active and authentic interest in each student’s overall success? When going through a yoga teacher training, it is imperative that you feel genuinely connected and support.
Three. Is the program credentialed?
Yoga Alliance certification upholds international yoga standards that are recognized throughout the world. Make sure that your training is 200 hour certified. This is industry wide certification guarantees high quality to your clients. You will want to be trained at this highest level. Clayton Yoga holds the honor of being the first yoga teacher training school in Missouri, June, 2003, in the whole state to be certified by Yoga Alliance.
Four. Make Yoga Practical.
In gaining a certification training, it is imperative that you receive the most basic relevant and direct tools available. Anything from chanting to the study of ancient classical spiritual texts may well constitute the study and practice of yoga. How does that help you reach your audience in today’s marketplace? It is important that you ask if the yoga course helps you relate directly with your preferable type of audience. If you are interested for example in sharing the practice in an office setting or a yoga studio, Clayton Yoga Teacher Training will help you learn the different language and approach required.
Five. Follow Your Intuition.
Talk with several schools or programs first to make sure you feel like this education is a good fit for you. Everyone is different and especially when working with people, there can be an inexplicable ‘X’ factor that occurs where you just feel more comfortable, more interested in asking questions and genuinely more excited to start. Trust your hunch and don’t be afraid to ask more questions if you feel unsure.
Six. Let’s Be Realistic. How much money can a yoga instructor really hope to make?
In a field like yoga instruction, revenue can vary greatly. The more you learn about the business of yoga, and apply what you have learned, the better you will do. At Clayton Yoga Teacher Training, we share with over 10 years’ experience, the best ways to market your services! But that is not all. We also encourage you to work smart and make business plans that work. Working hard and applying oneself diligently to the task at hand each day and everyday will guarantee greater success then those instructors who simply show up with a yoga sequence and hope for the best. With each person, the individual level or ability to reach higher states, is largely dependent upon one’s own desire, level of effort, and willingness to learn new things. Work!
Seven. Know Thyself
To keep going and stay interested in your field, it is important to know thyself. In Clayton Yoga Teacher Training we encourage you to explore and ask in the yoga application what a few setbacks you have faced are and how you have overcome them. We are interested in learning more about your growth potential and less about what we think you ought to know! Developing an attitude of finding out more about yourself, and studying more deeply the practice of yoga and what you intend to do with the training, will make your confident on the inside. Enjoying what you do is the best way to market your style and develop a winning approach. Be around people that encourage you to break the mold and be yourself. It’s fun!
Eight. Have a good sense of humor!
To believe that we can as a yoga instructor, walk on water, heal others instantaneously, or make the world a better place over night is fantasy. At the same time, to put ourselves down while attempting to bring others up also doesn’t really work. Healing and developing greater virtuous qualities is a lifelong practice and having a keen sense of humor is vital to enjoying the process and finding continuity.
